Coconut Chana Dal Chutney / Thengai Kadalai Paruppu Chutney is a delicious side dish chutney recipe which goes well for Adai dosa. This is also called Adai Side dish Chutney. Here Chana dal or gram dal is tossed with byadagi chillies and coconut. You can also use red chillies but byadagi chillies gives you colour and flavour to the chutney. This is a easy to make healthy and yummy chutney which can be made within minutes.

Ingredients required for making Coconut Gram dal chutney
Bengal gram dal / Kadalaiparuppu / Chana dal - 3 tbsp.
Grated coconut - 1 cup
Small Onions - 1/2 cup
Tamarind - small piece
Byadagi Red chillies - 6
Few coriander leaves
Salt to taste
To temper
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Pinch of Asafoetida
A sprig of Curry leaves
Method for making Coconut Gram dal chutney
1. Heat oil in a kadai add the bengal gram dal and fry till it becomes golden brown.
2. Add the byadagi red chillies (you can also use ordinary variety) fry for a minute and then add the small onions and saute well.
3. Next add the coriander leaves, grated coconut and tamarind along with the required amount of salt.
4. Allow the ingredients to cool. Once it is cool Ground this in a mixie by adding water little by little to a coarse texture. Transfer the contents to a bowl.
5. Heat oil in a kadai add the ingredients given under to temper. Pour this to the chutney.
Now Coconut Gram dal chutney is ready to be served with Adai, idli, Upma and dosa.
