Raw Banana Chops | Vazhakkai Masala Varuval | Raw Banana Stir Fry

Vazhakkai varuval / Raw banana Chops is one of the spicy recipe which goes well with any South Indian Lunch Variety. Here the raw bananas are sliced lengthwise and coated with masalas. Serve this Raw Banana Chops with Sambar rice or any variety rice of your choice.

Ingredients for making Vazhakkai varuval / Raw banana Chops

Raw banana - 2 no
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp.
Sambar Powder - 1 tsp.
2 sprigs of Curry leaves
Salt to taste
Oil as required.

To grind

Saunf - 1tsp.
Small onions - A handful
Garlic - 5 cloves
Coconut - 2 tbsp. (optional)
Red chillies - 5 nos.
A sprig of curry leaves

Method for making Vazhakkai varuval / Raw Banana Chops

1. Peel the skin of the raw banana, cut them into thick vertical slices just like french fries.



 2. Grind the ingredients give under "To grind" to a coarse texture.

3. Take the Raw banana slices in wide botommed vessel add the ground masala, sambar powder, salt and turmeric powder and mix them well so that the raw banana slices coat well with the masala on all sides.

4. Heat oil in a kadai add the mustard seeds and curry leaves, now add the coated raw banana slices and saute well. Add oil if required.

5. Now add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water and close with a lid and allow to cook in medium flame till the water gets absorbed.


5. After it is fully cooked you can add oil around and roast in a low flame for 10 to 15 minutes till gets crispy.

Now the Crispy spicy Vazhakkai Fry is ready to be served with any Variety rice or white rice with Sambar and Rasam.
