Idli Upma is one of the easy to make upma recipe made using left over idlis. You can use either freshly made hot idlis or you can do with leftover idlis. Usually this is done as an evening snack with the idlis lefover for breakfast. You can add roasted peanuts, cashewnuts, or even fresh boiled vegetables to make it more delicious. You can also add idli milagai podi to make it more spicier.
Ingredients for making Idli Upma
Idli - 5 nos.
A tbsp of Gingely Oil
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dhal - 1 tsp.
A pinch of turmeric powder (optional)
Green chillies - 2
Onions - 1
Finely chopped ginger and garlic
A sprig of curry leaves
Method for making Idli Upma
1. Crumble the idlis into fine pieces and keep it aside.
2. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, add the urad dal and fry till brown. Add the sliced onions, curry leaves and saute till it becomes transparent.
3. Next add the ginger and garlic and then the chopped chillies, turmeric powder and saute well in a medium flame.
4. Next add the crumbled idlis and mix well.
Now the yummy Idli upma is ready to be served with coconut chutney or Coriander chutney.
