Kathirikkai Gotsu or Brinjal Gotsu is one of the traditional tiffin side dish which is served in almost all Tamil Nadu marriages. This is a mixture of moong dal and brinjals which tastes yummy and goes well with idli, dosa and ven pongal varieties. You can try this kalyana Kathirikkai Gotsu in place of the usual sambar and chutneys.
Ingredients for making Brinjal Gotsu
Moong Dhal - 3/4 CupBrinjal - 6 nos.
Onions - 2
Green Chilli - 1
Tomato - 1
Sambar Powder - 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Salt - To Taste
Thick Tamarind Juice - 3 tbsp

For tempering
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp
Jeera - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1tsp.
Red chillies - 2
A sprig of Curry Leaves
Method for making Kathirikkai Gotsu
1. Soak the moong dhal and in water for 15 minutes.
2. Wash and cut the brinjals, onions and tomatoes into fine pieces. Soak the brinjals in water till use.
3. Transfer the dal and brinjals in a pressure pan, add the green chilli, chopped onions, tomatoes, turmeric powder, sambar powder, little salt and cook this for 3 whistles with enough water.
4. Mash the contents with a mattu and then add the tamarind juice and allow this to boil in a medium flame for 5 minutes.
5. Heat oil in a kadai and temper this with the contents given under to temper.
Now the Brinjal Gothsu is ready to be served with South Indian Tiffin of your choice.
