Tamil Nadu Traditional Thalicha Dosai | Seasoned Dosa or Tadka Dosa

Thalicha Dosai is one of the Traditional tasty South Indian Breakfast Recipe made using left over dosa batter mixed with some temperings, onions and green chillies. Loved for its unique taste and flavor. This is a traditional Tamil Nadu recipe which tastes delicious and gives a feeling of fullness. Tastes well with Pudina Chutney or idli Podi.

Thalicha dosai



Ingredients for making Thalicha Dosai 

Idli dosa batter - 3 cups
A handful of maida
A handful of Rava
Onions chopped  - 1 cup
A sprig of curry leaves
Green chilli chopped - 2 nos.
Coriander leaves - A handful
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1 tsp.
Chana dal - 1 tsp.
Oil as required

Method for making Thalicha Dosai 

1. Heat oil in a kadai splutter the mustard seeds add the dals and when the dal turns brown add the chopped onions. Saute well and then add the green chillies, curry leaves and coriander leaves. 



2. Transfer the contents to a wide bottomed vessel add maida, rava and salt mix well. Now add the idli batter and mix well. 


3. Now take a laddle full of batter and pour on the dosa tawa. Do not spread like dosa just pour and spread to a thick dosa.

4. Pour oil around and close with a lid. Cook for 2 mins in low medium flame.


5. Now open the lid and flip over and cook for 2 mins.



You can make small or big sized dosa of your choice.

Now the Thalicha dosai is ready to be served with Sambar, chutney or idli podi.

Note: If you use 3 days old batter the sourness will give a flavor. You can also add a tbsp. of curd for getting sour taste.
