Mysore Masala Dosa with Red Chutney and Aloo Masala | Spicy Mysore Dosa Recipe

Mysore Masala Dosa is crispy soft dosa served with red chutney and potato masala. The red chutney is spread on top of the dosa and then the potato masala is stuffed to give a delicious taste. This is famous recipe served in Bangalore and Mysore.

Mysore Masala Dosa

Ingredients needed for making Batter for Mysore Masala Dosa

Urad dal - 1 /2 cup
Idli rice - 2 cups
Fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp.
Salt as required.

Ingredients needed for making Red Chutney for Mysore Masala Dosa

Fried gram - 2 tbsp.
Garlic - 5 nos.
Red chillies - 5
Tamarind juice - 2 tbsp.
Roughly chopped Onion - A handful
Salt as required.

Ingredients for making Potato Masala / Potato Palya for Mysore Masala Dosa

Potato - 5 nos.
Onions - 2 nos.
Grated Ginger - 1 tbsp.
Garlic - 10 nos.
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp.
Green Chillies  - 2 nos.
Salt as required
A sprig of curry leaves
Chopped coriander leaves - A handful
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1 tsp.
Bengal gram dal - 1 tsp.
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp.

Method for making Batter for Mysore Masala Dosa


1. Take all the ingredients in a wide vessel add enough water and wash it thrice. Now add 2 litres of water and soak for 2 hours in room temperature.

2. After 2 hours grind this to fine batter. Take care not to grind very fine it must be little coarser.

3. Add enough salt mix well and allow this to ferment for 4 hours.

4. Now the batter is ready to make dosas. You can refrigerate and use this for 4 days.

Method for making Red chutney for Mysore Masala Dosa

1. Add all the ingredients needed for making red chutney in a mixer.

2. Grind this to a smooth paste by adding little water.

Now the red chutney for Mysore dosa is ready.

Method for making Potato Masala / Potato Palya

1. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the cumin seeds and mustard seeds, add the dals.

2. When the dal turns brown add chopped onions cut lenghtwise. Fry till they become transparent. Now add the curry leaves and saute well.


3. Add the chopped ginger, garlic followed by turmeric powder and required amount of salt. Mix well.

4. Mash the boiled potatoes with little water and then add this to the above mixture.






6. Mix the potatoes with the masala and allow this to boil for 5 minutes in a low flame.

Masala for dosa



Preparation of Mysore Masala Dosa 


1. Now take the required amount of batter in a container and add 1 tsp. of sugar so that the sugar will caramalise and gives a brown colour to the dosa.

2. Pour a ladle full of batter to a heated dosa tawa it should be thick in the middle and thin around the sides.

3. Mix ghee and groundnut oil in a small bowl and add this around the dosa. Close this with a lid.

4. Now place the red chutney  and just spread it over the dosa.



5. Take a small amount of the potato masala and place it on top of the red chutney spread dosa. Fold and serve.


The Delicious Mysore Masala Dosa is ready to be served with coconut chutney and sambar.
