Bitter Gourd Curry is one of the healthy lunch side dish recipes which goes well with sambar, rasam, kootu or even with any variety rice. Bitter Gourd has several health benefits. It is rich in fiber and vitamin C. Helps to reduce blood sugar level, reduces cholesterol, has got cancer fighting properties. Here I have given a simple and easy to make recipe.
Bitter gourd - 250 gm
Onions - 2 nos.
Onions - 2 nos.
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp.
Urad dal - 1 tsp.
Salt as required
Oil as needed
A sprig of curry leaves
Method for making Bitter Gourd Curry
1. Wash and chop the bitter gourd into small pieces. Remove the seeds. Soak in salt water for 15 minutes. Squeeze the water and keep the chopped bitter gourd aside.
2. Heat oil in a kadai, splutter the mustard seeds, add broken urad dal and curry leaves.
3. Now add the chopped onions and saute well till they become transparent.
4. Now add the drained bitter gourd and saute well.
5. Sprinkle turmeric powder, red chili powder and salt as per taste. Mix very well.
6. Fry in a low to medium flame for 10 minutes.
Now the bitter gourd curry is ready to be served.
