Ingredients to make Ellu Poorana Kozhukattai
Raw rice – 1 cup
Powdered jaggery- 1 cup
Sesame seeds / Ellu -1 cup
Cardomom - 2
Ghee -2 teaspoon
Gingely oil-1 tablespoon
Method for making Ellu Poorana Kozhukattai
1. Wash and Soak the raw rice for an hour, then dry this in a towel and grind it in a mixie to a powder form when it is dry.
2. Take a heavy bottomed vessel and boil some amount of water (1 cup of ground rice needs 2 cups of water approximately) and then add the ground rice, gingely oil and stir well with a ladle till you get a smooth ball like consistency.
3. Divide the dough into balls and close and keep aside.
4. Dry roast the sesame seeds until you get a nice aroma. Cool and then grind it to a fine powder.
5. Add the jaggery and cardamom powder and blend it well.
6. Take the ball-sized dough pat it to a small cup and place the ellu pooranam and close it in the form of ball or into a semicircle.
7. Now place all the Kozhukattais over the white cloth in the idli cooker and steam cook for 5 to 10 minutes.
Now the Ellu Vella Kozhukattai is ready.
